Non, Je ne regrette rien - The Initial Gin Red Snapper

An iconic 'hair of the dog' drink, reputed to cure hangovers with its combination of a heavy vegetable base (to settle the stomach), salt (to replenish lost electrolytes), and alcohol (to relieve head and body aches).

A Red Snapper is essentially a Bloody Mary with gin at the base instead of vodka. Switching out the vodka leads to a whole new drink: savoury, spicy, tangy, spicy, with a hint of botanical on the finish from our LDN Initial gin.

Rumour has it that in the United States after Prohibition, vodka was tricky to find so gin was swapped in. With that, the cocktail's name, too, underwent a rebrand, as it was felt that 'Bloody Mary' was too vulgar. And so the uncontroversial Red Snapper was officially born.

We love to use @Folkingtonsdrinks tomato juice as it's made from pure (not concentrated) tomato juice. Their tomatoes are grown in Spain's Ebro valley and only picked once they've had months of glorious Mediterranean sunshine to ripen them.

So here's to the perfect brunch partner and the year ahead - cheers!

INGREDIENTS

  • 45ml LDN Initial gin
  • 60ml Folkingtons Tomato Juice
  • 20ml Lemon Juice
  • Tabasco, to taste
  • 15ml Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Celery stick, lemon and cherry tomato, to garnish

METHOD

  1. Combine all the ingredients into a tall glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, cherry tomato, salt and fresh cracked pepper.

Regret nothing!
