Celebrate the year of the Tiger with the Initial Gin Chocolate Orange Sour

Chinese New Year! To celebrate the year of the Tiger try our Eye of the Tiger Cocktail - a delicious chocolate orange sour. This is us putting our Georgie and Henners stamp on a classic sour cocktail, but our twist is using orange juice, rather than lemon. A sour is a traditional family of mixed drinks. Sours belong to one of the old families of original cocktails and are described by Jerry Thomas in his 1862 book How to Mix Drinks. Sours are mixed drinks containing a base liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener (simple syrup or orgeat syrup).

The first known written recipe for a Sour appears six years later in Jerry Thomas' 1862 The Bartender's Guide which has recipes for a Brandy Sour, a Gin Sour and a Santa Cruz (rum sour).
We’ve used the Old Tom Initial Gin as the base gin in this cocktail, as the orange zest flavour works brilliantly in this chocolate orange sour.

So channel your inner tiger and here’s to the year ahead - cheers!
